Itinerary

DAY 1 – February 6 – Upon your arrival at Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru’s vibrant capital, our guide will warmly greet you and ensure your smooth transfer to your hotel. Later in the evening, come together with your fellow travelers for a delightful welcome dinner, marking the beginning of your adventure.

Note: We recommend leaving the US so that you arrive early enough to participate in Day 1’s activities. Should your flight take longer, and you wish to arrive on February 5 instead, pre-trip hotel charges will be added to your final bill.

DAY 2 – February 7 – The morning begins with a scenic drive to the ancient Huaca Pucllana, where you delve into Lima’s cultural heritage and the ancient civilizations that once thrived there. Then explore the colonial charm of the city with a stroll through the picturesque Plaza de Armas, followed by a visit to the awe-inspiring Catacombs of San Francisco Church. Your journey continues with a visit to the National Museum of Anthropology and History, a treasure trove of Peru’s rich heritage. Transitioning to modern Lima, soak in panoramic views of San Isidro and Miraflores before concluding at Larco Mar, a contemporary entertainment complex boasting stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean. Following the tour, enjoy a free afternoon to explore Lima at your own pace before returning to your hotel.

DAY 3 – February 8 –Today, you embark on a journey to Cusco via a short flight, taking a moment to acclimate to the altitude of 3,400m (11,152ft) upon arrival at your hotel. As you adjust to the altitude, you will explore the historic heart of Cusco, once the majestic capital of the formidable Inca Empire. Begin at the iconic Plaza de Armas (Main Square) before delving into the mesmerizing history of the Korikancha Inca temple. Transportation will then whisk you away to the surrounding hills of Cusco, where you’ll marvel at the imposing Sacsayhuaman Inca Fortress. Continuing your journey, we’ll uncover the mysteries of Qenko, an ancient Incan temple boasting underground galleries and zigzagging rock canals.

DAY 4 – February 9 – Your journey commences with a scenic descent into the sacred valley of Urubamba, revered as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, you explore the magnificent Pisac Inca Ruins, immersing yourself in the fine architectural mastery of the Inca civilization during a leisurely 1 to 2-hour stroll. Continuing the voyage, venture to the vibrant Indigenous Market of Pisac, a kaleidoscope of colors and culture before turning to Urubamba. Indulge in a delightful lunch at a picturesque hacienda before proceeding to the Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Here, the imposing Inca fortress and cobbled streets offer a glimpse into the splendor of ancient Inca life. Conclude the day’s adventures with a restful night at your charming Urubamba Valley hotel.

DAY 5 – February 10 – Today, you’ll explore the fascinating Maras Salt Mines, where over 3,000 surreal salt ponds are interconnected by an impressive underground canal system. These ponds are refilled with salt water from a nearby subterranean current and gradually evaporate in the intense sunlight, yielding pure salt extracted through traditional methods. Managed by 600 local families, the mines efficiently produce salt for sale in both local and international markets, onto Moray, an Inca archaeological site nestled at a lofty altitude of 11,500 ft. Here, you’ll encounter a series of terraced circular depressions, with the largest reaching depths of approximately 98 ft. Although the exact purpose of these depressions remains uncertain, their design and orientation generate temperature variations between the top and bottom. It’s believed that the Incas utilized these terraces for agricultural experimentation, exploring optimal growing conditions for various crops.

DAY 6 – February 11 – The day you’ve eagerly anticipated has arrived! Depart for the Urubamba train station to embark on the magnificent journey aboard the famous Belmond Hiram Bingham Train to Machu Picchu. Arriving in Aguas Calientes around noon, a short drive will take you to the main entrance of the fabulous Inca City of Machu Picchu. Explore this ancient site with your guide, immersing yourself in its mystical atmosphere and rich history. Conclude this monumental day at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, conveniently located just steps away from the ancient ruins.

DAY 7 – February 12 – As the sun rises, take pleasure in a relaxed morning at the hotel, soaking in the awe-inspiring vistas of the Inca citadel. In the afternoon, venture back to Aguas Calientes and embark on the Belmond Hiram Bingham Train for your journey back to Urubamba. As the scenic views unfold outside your window, take a moment to reflect on the beauty and significance of your journey so far. Upon arrival in Cusco, indulge in a delightful dinner with your newly-made friends, treasuring the memories of your unforgettable adventure.

DAY 8 – February 13 – FREE Day. Enjoy a day at your leisure in Cusco. Wander through the enchanting Plaza de Armas, where you’ll discover quaint restaurants and coffee bars offering stunning views of historic churches and colonial architecture. Explore local indigenous markets, where vibrant textiles and ceramics await. In the evening, gather for a festive farewell dinner at a lively restaurant featuring live music and indigenous dancers, celebrating the conclusion of your memorable journey.

DAY 9 – February 14 – In the morning, our private transport and guide will accompany you to the airport in Cusco for your flight to Lima. From there, you’ll connect with your international flight from Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) back home to the US. Please procure a flight departing after 12pm.

Travelers heading on to the Galapagos Islands will have an additional charge of $250 added to their invoice to accommodate for their transportation Cusco > Lima > Quito and the required hotel stay on February 14th & 15th.

Yolima is a horticulturalist originally from Colombia. She lived in Spain and traveled Europe extensively for many years in the early duration of her career. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and dabbles in Italian and French. She enjoys traveling the world and is always up for new adventures!   • Traveler must make a NONREFUNDABLE deposit payment of $400 at time of registration to secure her spot.
  • Monthly minimum payment of $400 is required on the first of every month until paid in full to keep your reservations current.
  • Final payment must be made 90 days before the trip date.
  • A 50% refund can be requested prior to 6 months before the trip start date found in your invoice.
  • No refunds for cancellations within 6 months of the trip date found in your invoice.
