EGYPT
2 SPOTS LEFT!

April 22-28, 2023

Egypt, a country linking Africa with the Middle East and home to the life-giving Nile River. This land was often referred to as a country of “Two Lands”, thought to describe the duality of the banks on either side of the river. The West Bank of the Nile, considered the land of the dead and home to ancient tombs, sees the setting sun each evening. Symbolically, the dead are reborn each morning with the rise of the sun on the Eastern Bank of the Nile, where Egypt has put life into many prominent cities.

Ancient Egypt is arguably the most interesting and oldest civilizations in the world. Hosting the only surviving Seven Wonders of the Ancient World along with countless statues, tombs, and hieroglyphs, Egypt is worthy of your bucket list! Join WTA on an unforgettable adventure to explore the cities and ancient history of Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, and Giza. This is a decision you won’t regret!

Note: We recommend leaving the US on April 21 so that your flight arrives on April 22 – early enough to join your group for the Welcome Dinner on Day 1. Should you wish to arrive on April 21 instead, pre-trip hotel charges will be added to your final bill.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – April 22 – Arrive at Cairo International Airport (CAI), and private transportation will take you to your accommodations for the week. After settling in, your group will get to know each other over a local welcome dinner at the hotel.

Note: We recommend your flight from the US arrives before 4pm on April 22 to allow adequate time to join the day’s activities.

DAY 2 – April 23 – Today, enjoy a full day’s visit to Alexandria! This port city’s birth and early history is a calling card of famous names – founded by Alexander the Great and lorded over by Queen Cleopatra. Alexandria is the Mediterranean’s dazzling jewel as it is home to the Great Library of Alexandria and the grounds for the colossal Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Experience the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa before enjoying lunch in the city. Your group will return to Cairo this evening to rest before another day full of adventure.

DAY 3 – April 24 – Start your epic day by visiting the Giza Plateau, the site of the Great Pyramids of Giza, Cheops Mycerinus and Chephren Pyramids that were built in the Fourth Dynasty (approximately 2690 BC). They are the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to survive. After lunch, your group will drive to Saqqara to discover the Pyramid of Djoser and Memphis City – the ancient capital of Egypt.

DAY 4 – April 25 – FREE Day. Indulge in a few spa treatments at our hotel or walk the Souks to find the perfect souvenir. This evening, join your group aboard the Nile Maxim as you enjoy a luxurious dinner on the Nile River.

DAY 5 – April 26 – This morning, your group will board a regional flight to Luxor where you will experience the biggest open-air museum in the world with stunning architecture on both sides of the Nile. To start this full day of exploration, visit the Valley of the Kings, for photos of Queen Hatshepsut’s temple and the Memnon Statues. Enjoy lunch at the local Sunflower Restaurant (our favorite!) before visiting the Temple of Karnak and Luxor. Wander through the Souk before a relaxing dinner. An evening flight will bring your group back to your hotel in Cairo this evening.

DAY 6 – April 27 – On your final full day in Egypt, your group will visit the Egyptian Museum, which features artifacts from the Pharaonic Period. This museum displays a rare collection of 5000 years of art considered to be the largest, most precious, collection of Egyptian art in the world. Over 120,000 overwhelming artifacts are presented, including gold and jewelry which was enclosed in Tutankhamun’s tomb for over 3,500 years before it was discovered in the 1920s. Next, visit the Citadel of Saladin mosque before enjoying lunch and a stroll through the markets of Cairo. This evening, your group will celebrate a wonderful week exploring the ancient wonders of Egypt!

DAY 7 – April 28 – A private transfer will take you back to Cairo International Airport (CAI) for your connecting flight to the US.
