Daily Itinerary
DAY 1 – December 2: Welcome to Vienna
Arrive at Vienna International Airport, where a private transfer takes you to your hotel in the city center. Settle in, then meet your host and fellow travelers this evening for a welcome dinner of Austrian classics and Austrian wine. Depart the US on December 1 to arrive in time.
Overnight: Hotel Guest House Vienna or Equivalent
Meals Included: Dinner
Note: We recommend departing the US on December 1 to ensure arrival before 3pm on December 2 for the welcome dinner.
DAY 2 – December 3: Old Vienna, one bite at a time
This morning, walk the old town with a local food guide, from the tiled roof of St. Stephen’s Cathedral to the courtyards of the Hofburg, the Habsburg winter palace. You stop at market stalls along the way to taste hot punch, roasted chestnuts, and Kaiserschmarrn, and learn what each stand is actually selling. The walk ends with a sit-down lunch at a traditional Viennese tavern. Your afternoon is free for the market at Rathausplatz, the biggest in the city, where the trees in front of city hall are strung with hearts and stars.
Overnight: Hotel Guest House Vienna or Equivalent
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
DAY 3 – December 4: Schönbrunn Palace & Free Time
After breakfast, head out to Schönbrunn Palace for a guided tour of the imperial rooms, then step into the Christmas market in the forecourt for hot punch and handmade ornaments. The rest of the day is yours. Many travelers make their way to Spittelberg, where the stalls fill a grid of narrow lanes. Gather this evening for a group dinner.
Overnight: Hotel Guest House Vienna or Equivalent
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
DAY 4 – December 5: Vienna to Budapest
This morning is the one most travelers remember. You have reserved seats at Sunday Advent mass in the Hofburg Imperial Chapel, where the Vienna Boys’ Choir has sung since 1498, in the same gilded chapel the Habsburgs used. After an early lunch, board a direct train to Budapest, two and a half hours across the Hungarian plain. Settle into your hotel in central Pest, then walk to the market at St. Stephen’s Basilica and sit down to a dinner of Hungarian cooking, with chimney cake for dessert.
Overnight: Hotel Corinthian Budapest or Equivalent
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 5 – December 6: Thermal baths and St. Nicholas Day
Spend this morning at Széchenyi Baths, one of the largest thermal complexes in Europe, where outdoor pools sit near 100 degrees under neo-baroque domes while the air outside stays close to freezing. Lunch follows. Today is Mikulás, the Hungarian St. Nicholas Day, so the markets fill with families and small gift bags. The afternoon and evening are yours.
Overnight: Hotel Corinthian Budapest or Equivalent
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
DAY 6 – December 7: Free Day in Budapest
Your last full day is open until evening. Browse the Vörösmarty Square market for folk art, embroidered linens, and hand-painted ceramics, warm up with lángos and mulled wine, or ride the funicular up to the Castle District for Matthias Church and the views from Fisherman’s Bastion. The Central Market Hall is worth an hour for paprika and Tokaji to take home. At dusk, board a private boat for a cruise along the Danube, with the Parliament building, the Chain Bridge, and Buda Castle lit up on either bank. Step off for a farewell dinner nearby.
Overnight: Hotel Corinthian Budapest or Equivalent

DAY 7 – December 8: Farewell Budapest
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport for your flight home, with a suitcase heavier than the one you packed.
